From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Philip Stone (14 April 1924 – 15 June 2003) was an English actor. He was born Philip Stones in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire. Stone appeared in three successive Stanley Kubrick films: playing the central character Alex's "Dad" in A Clockwork Orange (1971), "Graham" (the Lyndon family lawyer) in Barry Lyndon (1975) and as "Delbert Grady," the original caretaker in The Shining (1980). The only other actor to be credited in three Kubrick films is Joe Turkel. Other notable film roles included parts in Unearthly Stranger (1964),Thunderball (1965), Where Eagles Dare (1968), Two Gentlemen Sharing(1969), Fragment of Fear (1970), Quest for Love (1971), Carry On Loving(1971), O Lucky Man! (1973), Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973), Voyage of the Damned (1976), It Shouldn't Happen to a Vet (1977), The Medusa Touch (1978),S.O.S. Titanic (1979), Flash Gordon (1980), Green Ice (1981), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Shadowlands (1985). In the 1978 Ralph Bakshi's animated film The Lord of the Rings, he voiced the role of Théoden. Stone was also a prolific stage and television actor, appearing in many popular TV series, including the very first Avengers episode, The Rat Catchers, Dalziel and Pascoe, A Touch of Frost, Heartbeat, Yes Minister, Justice and Coronation Street. The Baby of Mâcon

- Barlow at Large is a British television programme broadcast in the 1970s, starring Stratford Johns in the title role. Johns had previously played Barlow in the Z-Cars, Softly, Softly and Softly, Softly: Taskforce series on BBC television during the 1960s and early 1970s. Barlow at Large began as a three-part self-contained spin-off from Softly, Softly: Taskforce in 1971 with Barlow co-opted by the home office to investigate police corruption in Wales. Johns left Softly, Softly for good in 1972, but returned for a further series of Barlow at Large in the following year, Barlow having gone on full-time secondment to the Home Office. This second series, rather than telling one story in serial form, as the 1971 series had, was instead ten 50-minute episodes, each with a self-contained story. In this series, Barlow was supported by Norman Comer as Detective Sergeant Rees, who had been helpful to him during the first series. He also had to deal with the political machinations of the senior civil servant Fenton. In 1974 the series was renamed Barlow and a further two series of eight episodes each followed, introducing the character of Detective Inspector Tucker, played by Derek Newark. The final episode was transmitted in February 1975. The Barlow character was seen again in the series Second Verdict in which he, along with his former colleague John Watt, looked into unsolved cases and unsafe convictions from history.

- Black and Blue was a BBC TV comedy-drama series, first broadcast in 1973. It was so named because of the black and blue humour. The show consisted of 6 episodes of 50–60 minutes duration, each episode was a separate self-contained playlet. The only connection between them was the Black and Blue humour theme. The first episode was broadcast on 14 August 1973, with the last episode airing on 18 September 1973. The play Secrets was wiped, only surviving thanks to a domestic videotape copy made from the mastertape by its producer, Mark Shivas.

The Rat Catchers

- The Rat Catchers is a 1960s British television series about a top secret British Intelligence Unit who receive orders from the Prime Minister and without questions battles enemy spies, saboteurs, and other criminals in order to protect the security of Great Britain and the Western Alliance. The show centred around three major characters: Peregrine Pascale Smith, the Oxford University-educated managing director with 12 years' experience under his belt, Brigadier H. St. J. Davidson, the emotionless analytical brains behind the group, and newly-recruited Richard William Hurst, formerly a superintendent at Scotland Yard who though he was said to have gone by the book in the police force, seems to have some problems with authority now. Part of the problem is that the Brigadier refuses to tell him more than the minimum that he needs to know about the organisation. Officially he works for Smith's company: Transworld Electronics and in episode 3, he is not sure whether Smith or the Brigadier is his boss. The organisation was based at Whitehall but officially didn't exist, being denied at the highest level as they worked with the greatest secrecy. The show began with the arrival of Hurst who is out of step with the other two. Raymond Francis was originally picked for the Hurst role but changed his mind at the last minute. Many of the stories were continued, sometimes with cliff-hanger endings.

Margaret Lockwood stars as Harriet Peterson a female barrister in the North of England. It was made by Yorkshire Television and was based loosely on Justice Is a Woman, an episode of ITV Playhouse broadcast in 1969 in which Lockwood had previously also played a barrister. The theme music was Crown Imperial by William Walton.

Spencer Quist - Doomwatch is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC, which ran on BBC 1 between 1970 and 1972. The series was set in the then present-day, and dealt with a scientific government agency led by Doctor Spencer Quist, responsible for investigating and combating various ecological and technological dangers. The series was followed by a film adaptation produced by Tigon British Film Productions and released in 1972, and a revival TV film was broadcast on Channel 5 in 1999.

Mr Trent - Home to Roost is a British television sitcom produced by Yorkshire Television in the 1980s. Written by Eric Chappell, it starred John Thaw as Henry Willows and Reece Dinsdale as his 18-year-old son Matthew. The premise is that Henry Willows is forty-something, who has been divorced from his wife for seven years and is perfectly happy living alone in London. That is, until his youngest child, Matthew arrives to live with him, after being thrown out by his mother. The plots generally revolved around Henry's annoyance at having his solitude disturbed, and the age gap clash. Henry employed two cleaners throughout the show's life; first Enid Thompson, and, in the third season, Fiona Fennell.
