Lena is an elderly lady who lives with her son 37 years. Thursdays usually go to play a game of cards with her friends, but often cant go.

This psychedelic tour of life after death is seen entirely from the point of view of Oscar, a young American drug dealer and addict living in Tokyo with his prostitute sister, Linda. When Oscar is killed by police during a bust gone bad, his spirit journeys from the past - where he sees his parents before their deaths - to the present - where he witnesses his own autopsy - and then to the future, where he looks out for his sister from beyond the grave.

Ruby and her husband Claude are a working-class couple who live in suburban Arkansas. As crazy as they are for each other, their relationship is far from harmonious. Fellow caver Tania feels inexplicably attracted to him, but the love of a good woman may not be enough.

Marguerite, a beautiful woman of affairs, falls for the young and promising Armand, but sacrifices her love for him for the sake of his future and reputation.
