Experimental Yugoslav short film.

A young man experiences his last few minutes of singular consciousness while examining a wild falcon he has studied for months.

A scheming secretary (Debbie D) uses black magic and voodoo to try to murder her lawyer boss (Dawn Murphy) so she can get her hands on the woman’s boyfriend. There are living vines, a bathtub drowning and a quicksand bog in this shot-on-video W.A.V.E. production.

This frame story serves as a link between several avant-garde sequences created by leading visual artists of their day, most of whom were emigres to the US during WWII.

A bride walks on the desert. She takes off her bridal ornaments and turns into a harlot. A multitude of people crawl on their bellies, become sick and soon die. A volcano erupts. White ashes of lahar cover the earth. The bride remembers her betrothal and repents-symbolically paving the way for the resurrection of her people. A final bridal march into a new heaven and earth takes place.

Cremaster 5 is a five-act opera (sung in Hungarian) set in late-ninteenth century Budapest. The last film in the series, Cremaster 5 represents the moment when the testicles are finally released and sexual differentiation is fully attained. The lamenting tone of the opera suggests that Barney invisions this as a moment of tragedy and loss. The primary character is the Queen of Chain (played by Ursula Andress). Barney, himself, plays three characters who appear in the mind of the Queen: her Diva, Magician, and Giant. The Magician is a stand-in for Harry Houdini, who was born in Budapest in 1874 and appears as a recurring character in the Cremaster cycle.
