Moshimo, Japan. The annual fireworks festival is about to take place and a group of schoolboys, arguing over whether they are round or flat when viewed from different angles, set out to find it out.

An island in Japan is the site for the dumped and the refuse. Nanakusa and Yu who were childhood and school friends meet on this island that is called Kaiden, a scary name that only refers to things not normal or earthly. The reunited friends strike a bargain and are soon involved in cases most would not dare be involved in or become entangled in.

High school student Dana moves to the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles after her North Dakota parents get divorced and falls in with the wrong crowd.

School girl Miyuri Obara is bullied mercilessly but finds relief in an unexpected friendship with Tsumugi. Yet even as Miyuri's life turns around there's a lingering suggestion that something is not quite right.

Because of this, he does not expect to meet people at any of his schools and does not try to make friends. However, when he attends a new school, his homeroom teacher asks him to deliver something to a classmate who hasn't been coming to school, but has excellent grades. By chance, he becomes friends with him, and Ken's ex-girlfriend Maya joins them, and as the three of them spend more and more time together, Yuki begins to wish that they could see him on stage as an actor.

Newly arrived in the nineteenth century court of Emperor Francis 1st of Austria Countess Valerie happens to overhear a young pianist and advises him to play with more feeling, for he is playing a piece by Franz Schubert, her favorite composer. Unknown to Valerie, the man is Schubert, and he playfully keeps his identity a secret. Valerie visits Franz the next day, and he teaches her to play the violin part of a new song he has written, and she hopes for romance though he still longs for his lost love Caroline. But as a week passes, he forgets Caroline and returns Valerie's affections. When Franz is evicted, there is much tumult, but he is finally called to court where his music is celebrated, and Valerie and he are reunited.
