After losing the woman of his dreams, Anderson is convinced he'll never fall in love again. But at the urging of his best friend, he spontaneously proposes to a dissatisfied waitress named Katie and an innocent dare evolves into the kind of love that both have been looking for all along.

Chen Miao is a bubbly but uncouth 25-year-old woman who was brought up without manners by her loving but negligent and equally uncouth father. When her paths cross with Wei Dong, the son of a wealthy family headed by a notable judge, her life turns upside down. She falls in love with him at first sight, although he doesn’t really know what to make of her. Unfortunately, due to her father’s carelessness in causing a fire that damages the Weis’ property, she gets off on the wrong foot with Wei Dong and his family – and ends up having to work as the family’s maid. Chen Miao hopes to win Wei Dong’s heart. The rest of the family is horrified by her lack of manners and hatches a plan to engineer a relationship between Wei Dong and a “more suitable” young woman from a similarly wealthy family. Chen Miao tries to change her tactics by adopting “polite” ways – creating more awkwardness. Despite all this, Wei Dong starts to wonder if he is falling for her unconventional charms!

Based on the true life experiences of poet Jimmy Santiago Baca, the film focuses on half-brothers Paco and Cruz, and their bi-racial cousin Miklo. It opens in 1972, as the three are members of an East L.A. gang known as the "Vatos Locos", and the story focuses on how a violent crime and the influence of narcotics alter their lives. Miklo is incarcerated and sent to San Quentin, where he makes a "home" for himself. Cruz becomes an exceptional artist, but a heroin addiction overcomes him with tragic results. Paco becomes a cop and an enemy to his "carnal", Miklo.

Steven Russell leads a seemingly average life – an organ player in the local church, happily married to Debbie, and a member of the local police force. This paper would rehabilitate his father, his two comrades being able to keep the diamonds contained in the safe... But the coup does not go as planned.

Following an order of the landowner, the bride of Arsena’s fellow villager gets kidnapped and the bride’s father is relentlessly flogged. Arsena tries to rescue the woman but fails and goes to the mountains with his newly married wife. Above all, Arsena learns that his wife is impregnated by the landowner and burns down his house. Arsena gets arrested, but manages to escape and joins the rebel peasants. Arsena feels that with the passage of time the rebels turn into criminals and continues to fight with the oppressors alone.

This is a story, actually a fairytale for adults, that expresses how life could be beautiful, if only mankind would get out of its own way and enjoy it for a change.
